Salary:   The hourly rate range for this non-exempt position is $16.80 to $19.20.  Appointment above the minimum is possible based on qualifications and experience, subject to approval.

West Allis Resident Incentive Pay:   An employee who resides within the City of West Allis shall be granted an additional 2% on top of the established pay for their position.

Examples of Duties

The primary duties include light to heavy manual labor on a wide variety of tasks involving all aspects of Arboriculture, Horticulture and landscape maintenance.  This position requires emotional intelligence, work ethic, accountability, and initiative to effectively perform the duties.

  • Tree removal - drag brush, sweep and rake hard and turf surfaces
  • Turf and right-of-way areas maintenance - mow, string trim, aerate, edge, fertilize
  • Plant trees, shrubs, perennials, annual flowers
  • Water newly planted trees, shrubs, perennials, annual flowers
  • Remove snow using hand shovel, powered snow blowers
  • Construct and repair landscape beds, hardscaping, irrigation
  • Park and facility maintenance - pick up trash, clean buildings
  • Assist other divisions as needed
  • Assist in snow removal and ice control operations

Perform a variety of public works maintenance activities either independently or as part of a work crew; perform normal work assignments fairly independently in accordance with established work procedures and departmental policies; possess the agility, strength and stamina to perform heavy manual labor on a continuous basis and to withstand exposure to variable and unfavorable weather; knowledge of hand tools used in Arboriculture and Horticulture and their safe operation; knowledge, safe operation and maintenance of small power equipment; safe operation of various types of trucks and automotive equipment of varied capacities under all types of weather conditions.

POST-OFFER PHYSICAL EXAM/DRUG TEST:   Persons offered employment must pass a post-offer drug test and thorough physical examination as a condition of employment.  
 
TRAINING (PROBATIONARY) PERIOD:
The City of West Allis is an at-will employer. All appointments are subject to a training (probationary) period of six (6) months; however, employment may be terminated at any time for any reason.

 

Compensation

The hourly rate range for this non-exempt position is $16.80 to $19.20.

$34,944.00 - $39,936.00 Annually
