Western employs approximately 2,000 full-time employees throughout its business units. It operates seven sawmills and one remanufacturing facility in B.C., and a distribution and processing centre in Arlington, Washington. As the largest Crown timber tenure holder in coastal BC, Western has a superior timber asset base and secure fibre supply. Its high-value, diverse products serve global markets. As part of its succession planning activities, Western is looking for a Vice President, Manufacturing to fill an upcoming retirement.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Manufacturing provides leadership and direction to the manufacturing activities in British Columbia and, in accordance with identified strategic goals, will obtain optimum operational efficiency and operating margins, without compromising safety. The main objectives will include delivering best-in-class safety performance, overseeing environmental protection initiatives, executing the manufacturing business strategy, and identifying, analyzing and recommending opportunities to enhance margins through operational efficiency and optimizing product selection. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will join in a significant change leadership mandate – to assess, plan, and implement a strategy and operational structure that delivers on Western’s key objectives.

The ideal candidate will be a senior executive in a multi-site, complex, labour intensive and unionized manufacturing business. Experience could include forestry, building products, automotive or other industrial sectors where there are multiple inputs into the production process with numerous options for outputs sold at varying price points. They will have exceptional leadership and mentorship capabilities and will be skilled in managing the financial performance of a manufacturing business.
