The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has an exciting opportunity in the Forest Service Branch located in Prince Albert as the  Provincial Silviculture Forester.
 
As a  Provincial Silviculture Forester  you will:
  • Lead the development, implementation and improvement of provincial standards and codes of practice for forest renewal;
  • Audit forest renewal practices of industry and government and improve confidence in predicting future forest conditions.
  • Lead investigations, trials and research of past and current forest renewal practices.
  • Consult with the forest industry, government staff and educate the public about improved forest renewal practices and procedures for assessing compliance within renewal standards;.
  • Provide direct staff supervision, assign work, manage staff, and
  • Conduct operational planning.
The successful candidate will have:
  • Forest management knowledge and skills;
  • Knowledge of forest harvesting practices and their impact on prompt forest renewal;
  • Forest renewal practices in boreal forests and how they impact forest values (ecological, social and economic) including timber yields, succession; fire risk, wildlife habitat, water quality, and recreation, and
  • Broad knowledge of threats to the productivity of young forests and methods to reduce losses.
Requirements:
Typically, a Master's Degree related to silviculture or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry with extensive experience in forest renewal is required. Experience working within this industry and/or government in the delivery, improvement and assessment of forest renewal practices in the Boreal forests of Canada would be seen as an asset.
Candidates must be eligible to register for membership to the Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals.

$38.68 - $48.47 an hour
