Description: 
The Project Manager (PM) / Sr. Mechanical Engineer at this engineering company in British Columbia is responsible for overall project planning and execution of design and construction projects, scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting and control, while providing technical direction in a manner consistent with the employer’s principles of safety and standards of quality.  Duties to include working on projects as a team member or as the lead engineer.  May be asked to be responsible for the design, budget and schedule creation and control, client interactions, and travelling to site for project implementation.
Project Managers may be tasked with new equipment design, renovation and/or expansion and responsibilities span a broad spectrum, covering all areas of project management such as Project Planning, Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management, and Contract Administration. They will manage engineering and assist support contractors with construction projects from design inception to completion as the customer's representatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Essential role in project planning, budgeting and identification of resources needed.
  • Imperative to maintain and communicate to management all budget and schedule variances, cost estimate and cost-to-complete information in a timely fashion throughout the duration of the project. 
  • Bring about optimum utilization of labor, materials and equipment, and ensure their procurement at most cost-effective terms. 
  • Ensure that engineering and construction activities move according to the predetermined schedule. 
  • Devise project work plans and make revisions as and when the need arises.
  • Serve as the key-link with the customer.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers and design/drafters, field supervisors, crew members and contractors responsible for completing various phases of the project as well as the customer and their representatives.
  • Monitor the progress of the engineering design, construction activities on a regular basis and hold regular status meetings with all parties necessary. 
  • Perform periodic inspections of the design and construction site.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory guidelines and ensure project documents are complete and on time. 
Requirements:
  • Ability to work in Canada and the US is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical, Electrical Engineering and Construction Management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial engineering and design/drafting, industrial construction projects with an emphasis on leadership roles.
  • Excellent cost control, scheduling and communication skills essential.
  • AutoCAD wood products industrial equipment design and drafting experience.
  • Working knowledge of codes, regulations and industry standards and practices including OSHA-required health and safety guidelines for construction.
  • Ability to plan and organize.
  • Good customer management and goodwill building ability.
  • Effective time-management and logical decision-making ability.
  • Capacity to handle pressure.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Strong focus on quality.
