We intend to hire an experienced OPERATIONS FORESTER for our 145,000 acre private property near Timmins, as soon as possible. This is a new position for Haliburton Forest, reflecting the significant growth in our forest products business.

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Primarily responsible for the boots-on-the-ground, day-to-day implementation of our forest management plan on our 145,000 acre property near Timmins, ON.
  • Additional responsibilities will include the following:
    • o Recruit, set up, and manage independent contractors providing logging, merchandizing, trucking, silviculture, and infrastructure development services.
    • o Collect and analysis data that relates to forest inventory, harvest quality, product recovery, land use, and infrastructure layout.
    • o Engage with stakeholders of all kinds, including local communities, recreational property users, snowmobile clubs, mineral rights holders, and many others to achieve land use objectives.
    • o Assist with the development of infrastructure and business plans for the purposes of advancing tourism and recreation operations on the property.
    • o Contribute to other initiatives such as applied silvicultural research, systems improvements, product recovery, and general business development.
  • Candidates must be in, or prepared to relocate to, Timmins, Cochrane, Smooth Rock Falls, or one of the nearby communities.
  • The successful candidate will be capable of travelling regularly within northeastern and occasionally central Ontario, for field visits to the forests that we own and manage.

 QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Forest Technicians or Registered Professional Forester designation, or ability to achieve such a designation within 18 months of accepting the position, will be considered an asset.
  • College diploma or Bachelor’s degree in forestry or a related natural resources discipline.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Excited by the prospect of working very independently in the office as well as in the bush for extended periods of time through all seasons and forest conditions.
  • Experience with forest operations management or supervision.
  • Functional field skills with GIS, GPS, and related technologies.
  • Working knowledge of silviculture in the Boreal forest region.

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on the experience of the candidate. Similar to all positions with Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve and its subsidiaries, unlimited recreational access to the 100,000 acres of private land owned and managed by Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve.
