Mendocino Forest Products is looking for an Mechanical Engineer to join our team! To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responsibilities

Increase profits, safety and quality by improving all phases of machine design, process improvement, and equipment analysis at Mendocino Forest Products and Humboldt Redwood Company Operations. Oversee application of Manufacturing Engineering procedures and programs. Create concept and mechanical designs, provide project cost estimates, perform vendor selection, and generate sound financial justification.  Responsible for all phases of project proposals as well as implementation management.

 

  • Subject matter expert (SME) in equipment design and fabrication process
  • Active in recommendation for best practices and use of technology
  • Teamwork  with Industrial Engineers, Operations Management and Operators
  • Generate mechanical designs including specifications and requirements
  • Guide vendors on material selection and fabrication processes
  • Coordinate and design mechanical and electrical interfaces and controls with Electrical Engineers and Electricians              
  • Teamwork with maintenance group in data driven root cause analysis and equipment improvements
  • Mentor  other technical staff in their professional development
  • Execute pilot and production release of equipment projects
  • Design, develop, implement and improve integrated systems that include people, materials, information, equipment and costs
  • Work independently and as part of a team in order to achieve project deliverables and milestone deadlines
  • Lead equipment/process troubleshooting and root cause analysis effort
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.), in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum one year of experience in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field preferably in a sawmill environment
  • Experienced with pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical controls, machine and machine control design is required
  • Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement and/or Lean Manufacturing knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Advanced skill levels with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Database software/Access (macros, pivot tables, user forms, data analysis pack). Intermediate to advanced skill level with digital image, video editing, CAD, Solid Works and/or Visio software required
  • Experience in query and macro generation, computer simulation, Facility Layout and Process Flow Mapping
  • Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines 

 Physical Requirements

  • The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and communicate.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • The employee will split his/her time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate while the noise level in the Sawmill dictates the necessity for hearing protection when working on the manufacturing floor.
  • This position may require the following equipment when in the plant: eye protection, hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety shoes and a hard hat.
  • Occasional travel to other company owned sites as well as vendor sites will be required.
