Mechanic A (Maintenance & Trades)

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Mechanic A is responsible for the repair and maintenance of logging equipment to keep downtime to a minimum and to meet production demands.  Equipment ranges from pickup trucks to swing yarders.  Repair work is performed at the shop or on-site in the woods, regardless of weather conditions.  This is a full-time position and is based out of our Camp 1 facility located about 10 miles West of Shelton, WA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

The Mechanic A must be able to perform all functions to accomplish the primary purpose of the job.

  • Must understand fundamental operation of, and demonstrate ability to operate, equipment being serviced and maintain organized service records on equipment assigned. 
  • Understand and perform repairs on diesel, hydraulic, brake, air & hoist systems; drive trains; undercarriage
  • Understand and perform repairs on 12 to 24 volt electrical systems.
  • Understand and perform repairs on swing yarders.
  • Must be able to rebuild undercarriages – field rail repairs.
  • Must be able to use gas and arc welding equipment.
  • Able to operate shop trucks, and boom trucks.
  • Check lubricant levels, perform scheduled oil changes, and perform simple mechanical tasks using hand tools.
  • Wear all required safety equipment and comply with all safety rules and regulations.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Wash equipment and perform shop housekeeping.
  • Pick up and/or deliver parts.
  • Advanced mechanical work, welding and fabrication.
  • Understand and repair gasoline engines, newer style electronics, and fuel injections.
  • Advanced hydraulic pump/cylinder repair skills.
  • 120 volt and larger electrical repair skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience operating heavy equipment and mechanical work experience.
  • Must possess valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s license.

  • Valid First Aid/CPR card.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is located in Shelton, WA.
  • Works primarily (90%+) of the time in the field under varying topography and climatic extremes.
  • Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep rugged, densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to see distance and detail with accuracy.
  • Must have ability to work independently and without immediate supervision in remote areas.
  • Works in conditions that may expose employee wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites.
  • Mandatory travel to remote company locations.
  • Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times.
  • Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with Green Diamond.
  • This position may be exposed to pesticides.
