Responsible for the planning, coordination and scheduling of maintenance work in a designated operating area of the mill to optimize efficiency, cost-effectiveness and equipment reliability. Develops effective and realistic work plans with special consideration for safety, quality and long term equipment life; responsible for maintaining equipment records, specifications, and work histories to preserve reliability and efficiency improvements.

The planner contributes to improving safety performance within area of responsibility by incorporating job specific safety requirements into job plans. The planner is responsible for describing a maintenance job in terms of how it is to be performed, defining the precision maintenance requirements of the job, what materials and equipment are required and all other resources required to execute the work in a safe and efficient manner.

Plans all applicable work within the assigned area of responsibility. “Planning” includes but is not limited to:

Managing work backlog and work priorities to ensure that the correct work is being executed.

Providing detailed estimates of key work steps, materials, manpower and additional resources for all planned work.

Providing work scope or materials specifications to Materials Management and assisting in quotation evaluation and purchasing decisions.

Communicating work plans with required precision maintenance documentation to Maintenance Supervisor or Scheduler and appropriate Operations counterparts.

Maintaining an up-to-date planned backlog of “down day” work for outages within area of responsibility.

Documenting actual requirements on completed work orders. Properly closing work orders and handling of associated financial paperwork.

Spending at least one third of each work day in the field scoping the requirements of jobs to be planned.

Proactively develops planning methodologies which take full advantage of the repetitive nature of much maintenance work.

Updates and corrects equipment files, specifications, parts lists, descriptions, etc. as errors or outdated information are encountered.

Performs maintenance coverage as a member of the rotating duty roster, as required.

Participates as an active member of the Area Reliability Team(s).
