ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participate with the Timber Director and Contract Timber Manager to evaluate purchase opportunities to meet the needs of Roseburg mills.
  • Purchase quality log volume from industrial and non-industrial sources
  • Provide management and leadership in log purchasing activities for four facilities
  • Communicate regularly with mill managers on log procurement and quality of purchased logs
  • Provide active and ongoing feedback as to market conditions, pricing and availabilities
  • Forecast deliveries related to purchase activities
  • Ensure log quality targets are achieved
  • Strong commitment to safety 
  • Ensure all transactions are properly documented and distributed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Forestry, Business, or other field relevant to log purchasing
  • 10+ years of work experience
  • Knowledge of timber harvest operations in the Northwest
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Self-starter that is highly motivated and capable of working independently without supervision
  • Solid understanding of plywood and lumber manufacturing
  • Excellent driving and safety record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Log purchasing experience in the western U.S.
  • Experience with acquiring public timber
