The Huu-ay-aht First Nations, through its solely owned business Huumiis Ventures limited Partnership (Huumiis), has partnered with Western Forest Products (Western) to create a leading-edge model for revitalization and reconciliation in the Alberni Region located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, BC: Tree Farm License 44 LP. This partnership is guided by the long-held principles of the Huu-ay-aht First Nation including:


• iisaak (respect),
• uu-a-thluk (taking care of),
• and hišuk ma c̕awak (everything is connected)


As the holder of an area-based Tree Farm License, TFL 44 LP has the exclusive right to harvest timber and manage and conserve forests, recreation, and cultural heritage resources on a 135,000-hectare area containing some of the most productive forests in Canada.


Reporting to the TFL 44 LP Board, the General Manager is accountable for providing overall strategic and operational leadership. This will include developing and implementing a 5-year plan. The General Manager will be responsible for leading a dedicated team, employed by TFL 44 LP, to implement an annual operating plan - targeting world leading safety outcomes, and working to meet defined financial targets and sustainability requirements.


The ideal candidate is a strong operational and business leader with a proven track record driving safety, profitability and sustainability in complex unionized operations that
require extensive stakeholder engagement and the ability to develop strong First Nations relationships. Experience managing teams and leading contract negotiations is essential. Skilled in managing labour and operating agreements, the preferred leader can effectively build strong relationships and understanding with the Board, unions, First Nations, and local communities.


This is a legacy creating position based in Port Alberni, a gateway to the west coast of Vancouver Island. The GM of TFL 44 LP will be leading the business execution aspects of a historical reconciliation initiative for the Alberni Region on behalf of the partners who
have worked together to develop their shared vision – Huumiis and Western.
