Heavy Duty Mechanic (Maintenance & Trades)

POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for the repair and maintenance of heavy duty logging equipment.  Most work is performed out in the woods at the job site.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

• Must have a minimum of five years repair and maintenance experience on heavy duty logging equipment
• Must have good welding skills.
• Must have own tools.
• Must have good communication skills.
• Must have a good attitude and safety record.
• Must be able to fill in for other team member during temporary absences.
• Must work steadily for 8 hour shift minimum
• Must have the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to unsafe conditions.
• Must have the ability to provide documentation and record keeping.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• High school graduate or formal training as a mechanic.  We will consider equivalent experience that provides the required skills to be proficient working on heavy duty equipment.
• Ability to evaluate condition of equipment so as to order correct parts to complete repairs or relate the information to supervisor.  
• Must have a Class B license.
• Must be able to work quickly and steady with good work ethic.
• Must be able to listen and follow instructions accurately with good hearing and vision.
• Must be a problem solver with the ability to perform work in the field.  
• Effective and productive communications skills; speaks well, communicates ideas clearly.  Writes well, clearly and concisely.  Is approachable and open to discussion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Must have punctual and regular attendance with a good safety record
• Travels to various locations throughout the timberlands property where equipment is working.
• Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo.
• Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep rugged, densely vegetated terrain at times in sometimes harsh weather conditions.
• Works in conditions that may expose employee wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites.
• Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo.
• This position is exposed to petroleum products.
