Forsite Consultants Ltd  is actively looking for a  GIS Specialist  with experience and demonstrated aptitude in GIS, map creation and python scripting, for a position in our  Edmonton  office.

 As a GIS Specialist you will be responsible for the following:

  • Organize, coordinate and assist in land and resource development projects that utilize GIS;
  • Provide business knowledge around Alberta GIS datasets (access, content/attributes)
  • Assist forest industry clients with data management and spatial data directives;
  • Provide clients with scripted spatial solutions, custom Arc tools and Excel templates to assist their business needs;
  • Present data on pdf and web maps using ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Web AppBuilder and,
  • Documentation, quality control, and incremental improvement over time.

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience;
  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS tools, including Spatial Analyst extension;
  • Ability to write/edit Python scripts is mandatory (other programming experience may be considered);
  • Good technical understanding of Excel, ability to write advanced formulas and VBA macros;
  • Broad understanding and implementation of land management concepts and practices;
  • Excellent problem solving skills, initiative, and an intuitive ability  (analytics using math/basic statistics will be required);
  • Class 5 driver’s license with vehicle to travel to client locations; and
  • A professional, friendly and courteous manner (service & team oriented).

 In addition, the ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in support of strategic and operational forest planning in Alberta, including familiarity with AVI and other provincial datasets;
  • Experience using ArcGIS Server and web mapping tools such as the JavaScript API and Web AppBuilder with custom widgets;
  • Strong organizational skills and technical writing skills;
  • Self-direction, flexibility and an ability to work under limited direct supervision; and
  • Good technical understanding of other Microsoft Office™ applications (Access in particular);
