Apply your specialized knowledge and skills in this challenging and rewarding role. The GIS Forest Specialist is the data specialist for Burns Lake Community Forest (BLCF). As the GIS/Forest Specialist, you will conduct spatial and tabular data analysis and support BLCF on daily and annual operational goals.

As a GIS/Forest Specialist you will be using ESRI’s suite of GIS software including ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online and natural resources based tabular data managers such as Phoenix Pro, NRM (formerly referred to as Resources). As GIS/Forest Specialist you will be responsible for carrying out forest analysis, programming, and administering databases. This is a diverse position with excellent opportunity for growth and development of your natural resources skills.

To be successful in this position, you will possess the following skills:

  • Ability to deal with multiple ongoing and complex projects, shifting priorities, and tight timelines Experience with web mapping administration and strong ArcGIS and cartographic skills Data collection method ologies and analysis techniques using drones and other mobile devices Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and to develop effective working relationships with staff, public, community members, and clients at all levels of government including First Nations Experience in preparation of cutting permit submissions, road permit submissions, and related other applications as required (RESULTS, FTA and ECAS ministry databases) A good working knowledge of legal regulations and requirements pertaining to BC crown forest land operations and area base tenure administration.

Assets that will give you a competitive edge over other candidates:

  • A natural resource technical diploma or degree, specializing in Forestry or GIS
  • Experience in Forest Planning Experience with Data bases such as SurveyWizard, Plant Wizard, and CruiseComp Eligibility for registration or registered with the Association of Forest Professional of British Columbia as an RPF or RFT
  • With the right combination of skills and experience, this position may be under implemented.
