Qualifications

We are looking for a Forestry Professional with forestry experience, who is immediately eligible for membership in the BC Association of Forest Professionals as a Registered Forestry Professional (RPF), or a Registered Forestry Technician (RFT). Who possess a Natural Sciences degree or diploma from a from a recognized Canadian University or College.

Duties

  • Supervise forestry assistants to ensure all safety and productivity goals are met.
  • Assess timber and riparian values.
  • Lay out cutblock boundaries and road centrelines.
  • Classify watercourses and assign appropriate protection measures.
  • In cooperation with GIS personnel, ensure that all digital data is accurate and coherent.
  • Produce reports that exceed client standards using Office applications.

Skills

  • Woodland navigation using GPS and/or hand compass.
  • Able to delineate timber boundaries by composition, slope, and soils.
  • knowledge of road construction standards and constraints.
  • Use LIDAR slope, hillshade, and CHM data to focus timber reconnaissance processes.
  • Soil texture analysis and knowledge of engineering and silviculture implications.
  • Tree and plant species recognition to aid in ecosystem classification using the BEC system (BC).
  • Rudimentary GIS/GPS operational knowledge.
  • Competent use of Office applications to generate coherent professional reports.
  • Proven ability to safely operate ATV's and snowmobiles.
  • Proven ability and knowledge of safe driving on resource roads.

You’ll spend most of your time in the field near Valemount BC, assessing logging chance, laying out road and boundary, and collecting hydrological and ecological data. Successful candidates will have highly developed interpersonal and technical skills, and the ability to work efficiently while contributing to a positive and safety-oriented work environment.

As a team lead, you will know, the relationships between timber values, terrain, hydrology, and the overlying ecosystem constraints, and how they dictate where and how logging and hauling can be configured to maximize profit while protecting or enhancing other values on the land.

As report and document preparation will also be required, skill with Office applications will be an asset, as will familiarity with GPS, LIDAR, and GIS applications.

You must be physically fit and able to adapt to a variety of conditions in mountainous terrain, clients, and project configurations.
