Job Description:

   Under general guidance of the Public/Private Forestry Section Chief and Program Staff, the position works in a team environment involved in program coordination, strategic planning and implementation of private forestry assistance programs. The majority of the work takes place in an office setting but may involve fieldwork including statewide travel. 
    
   60% Assist with program administration of the Cooperating Forester Program. Prepare accomplishment report data and respond to requests for assistance. Coordinate and administer the Wisconsin Forest Landowner Grant Program. Gather information for grant awards, maintain web pages, and communicate on a regular basis with field staff. Assist with planning and coordination of private forestry training and certification programs. Collaborate with program staff to assess and develop training materials. Conduct conservation easement monitoring, baseline data inventory and property inspections. Prepare baseline reports for proposed/approved easement acquisitions, monitoring reports and coordinate post-monitoring follow-up activities. 
    
   30% Provides program and administrative support for the Public/Private Forestry Section Chief and Program Staff, including issue analysis, preparing reports and assigned special projects. Coordinate various meetings. Prepare information to support and/or facilitate decision making. Respond to public/private/business inquiries regarding program policies, procedures and rules. Participate on ad hoc teams to address emerging issues and other special projects. Coordinate and participate in project/team meetings, develop project proposals, and inform team members and partners on progress. 
    
   10% Engage internal and external teams such as the Private Land Management Team and the Wisconsin Private Forestry Advisory Committee. Assist with planning and coordination of the annual Cooperating Forester Statewide meeting in cooperation with partners such as the Wisconsin Consulting Foresters. 

Qualifications:

   Required Qualifications: 
   - Applicants must have sufficient training and experience to demonstrate that, upon appointment, the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks have been acquired. 
   - Demonstrated familiarity with natural resource management and forest management principles and programs. 
   - Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. 
   - Good organizational skills and ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment. 
   - Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, teams and the public. 
   - Ability to meet and maintain requirements to operate a state-owned vehicle 
   - Must be proficient in the use and application of the Microsoft suite of tools (e.g. Word, Excel, Power point) to produce finished documents / reports, analyze data and prepare presentations, and use of e-mail. 
   - General knowledge of project management principles (such as setting objectives, timelines and monitoring progress) 
    
   Preferred Qualifications: 
   - Knowledge of or experience with GIS applications.

   In order to be appointed to this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin. Non-residents may apply, but must meet residency requirements upon hire. 
    
   Due to the nature of this position the Department of Natural Resources will conduct a comprehensive criminal background check on applicants prior to selection. 
    
   Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. 

Compensation

Between $20.00 - $24.00 per hour depending on experience and training.
