POSITION TITLE
Forestry Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION (MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Responsible for assisting with the administration and day-to-day operations of the department, including the efficient propagation and management of the College’s land resources.
- Implement and manage timber harvest plans/operations, employ accounting practices for timber audit reconciliations, and frequent timber cruising to estimate timber volumes using industry standards.
- Identify and delineate property lines, timber sale boundaries, and buffer and stream zones.
- Coordinate the construction and maintenance of forest access roads.
- Coordinate prescribed burns and fire suppression/prevention plans to ensure readiness in the event of wildfire. Required to respond to emergency situations that occur on Berry College property as they relate to land management.
- Work with Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Georgia Forestry Commission on various land management initiatives.
- Work with and mentor students interested in land resources management.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience.
- Must be a registered forester in the State of Georgia.
- Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ArcGIS Mapping Experience
- Experience with DNR and the Georgia Forestry Commission
- Experience with planning and supervision of managed hunts
- Competencies in Microsoft Suite programs 5. Strong written and verbal skills
