POSITION TITLE 
Forestry Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION (MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  1. Responsible for assisting with the administration and day-to-day operations of the department, including the efficient propagation and management of the College’s land resources.
  2. Implement and manage timber harvest plans/operations, employ accounting practices for timber audit reconciliations, and frequent timber cruising to estimate timber volumes using industry standards.
  3. Identify and delineate property lines, timber sale boundaries, and buffer and stream zones.
  4. Coordinate the construction and maintenance of forest access roads.
  5. Coordinate prescribed burns and fire suppression/prevention plans to ensure readiness in the event of wildfire. Required to respond to emergency situations that occur on Berry College property as they relate to land management.
  6. Work with Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Georgia Forestry Commission on various land management initiatives.
  7. Work with and mentor students interested in land resources management.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience.
  2. Must be a registered forester in the State of Georgia.
  3. Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. ArcGIS Mapping Experience
  2. Experience with DNR and the Georgia Forestry Commission
  3. Experience with planning and supervision of managed hunts
  4. Competencies in Microsoft Suite programs 5. Strong written and verbal skills
