Job Purpose

To manage various facets of forestry operations and forest management. May include forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction, planning and wood sales/purchases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personal and Contractor Safety
  • Manages forestry operations and forest management. May include forest management plans, forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction, hauling, planning and wood sales/purchases.
  • Administration associated with job position (e.g. preparation of budgets, bid packages and contracts. Tracking and reporting of costs, and reviewing invoices)
  • Contract negotiation and implementation.
  • Liaison with customers, ministries and contractors
  • Complete SFI documents and participate in SFI internal and 3rd party audits.
  • Maintain compliance with all legislation and Certification
  • Assist Forester III and Area Forest Manager with budget development and forecasting
  • Participate in provincial and trade association committees
  • Coordinate and lead work teams
  • Coordinate and lead special projects as assigned
  • Manage direct reports

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • safety conscious,
  • good planning , GIS, GPS skills and ability to coordinate resources,
  • cost orientated,
  • good communicator and good interpersonal skills, team player,
  • knowledge of applicable forestry and safety legislation,
  • ability to drive in a variety of field and highway conditions,
  • ability to operate a computer and supporting software,

Education:

  • Degree, diploma, or extensive operational background in the related field of work.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years forestry experience

Work Environment

  • Office and outdoor environment subject to elements of nature.
