Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical field to office support to Roanoke GIS users
  • Produce recurring map products supporting forestry and operations contracts
  • Develop thorough understanding of Roanoke user groups and RTS shop processes
  • Support all short term and long term System deployment, training, and continuous improvement plans
  • System Integration
    • Collaborate with Roanoke staff to understand existing field work flows and potential enhancements
    • Collaborate with Roanoke staff, GIS Manager, and contractors to migrate existing GIS, paper/analog, and spreadsheet tracking processes to the Enterprise System
  • Data Integrity
    • Ensure compliance with defined standardization of recurring products and data storage protocol requirements for recurring GIS products such as contract maps and bank reporting requests
    • Follow protocol for reviewing schema changes to ensure change impact is controlled and manageable
    • Maintain Roanoke GIS meta-data documentation
  • Data Analysis
    • Lead role providing field to office GIS analytical support of recurring Roanoke operations plans, inventory planning, long term forest management / harvest scheduling planning, market analysis, and from time to time various business ventures such as local acquisition, disposition and lease projects
    • Support tools which automate and expand the use of GIS analysis within Roanoke operations
  • Training
    • Conduct both 1 on 1 and larger group training sessions for data collection and integration with staff, interns, and contractors

Required Qualifications

  • BS in a natural resources field with 3+years of GIS data management and analysis experience or
  • BS in GIS or Geography with 3+ years of managing GIS data for a forest resources business
  • Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS desktop and or ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Highly organized with ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with python programming
  • Experience using ESRI Portal to develop web maps
  • Familiar with ESRI ArcSDE and version management
