The BC First Nations Forestry Council (FNFC) supports the meaningful involvement of First Nations in the governance and stewardship of forest lands and resources, and participation of First Nations as full partners in the forest sector of BC. A non-profit organization, the FNFC works closely with government and First Nations to develop forest sector opportunities, and to ensure First Nations’ needs, values and principles are factored into forestry-related legislation, policies and program development.
Under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer, the Forest Policy Advisor will provide policy, decision support and operational advisory services to advance and incorporate First Nations priorities and values in the development and reform of forest policies, practices and regulations. The Forest Policy Advisor will actively contribute to a collaborative team environment that is committed to advancing the strategic priorities of the organization and work closely with government and First Nations to support the organization’s services and mandate. The Forest Policy Advisor will lead significant policy and legislative review, and initiatives and be responsible for the development of technical reports, briefings and policy documentation.
The successful candidate will have experience with the research and interpretation, drafting and preparation, and the analysis of forest-related policy, regulations and legislation in BC, as well as experience managing projects, programs and policy initiatives with the ability to build constructive working relationships with First Nations, government, and industry.
The ideal candidate will hold a University Degree, diploma or certificate in forestry, or natural resource management, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of experience will be considered. Experience working with First Nations is an asset as well as knowledge and understanding of First Nations peoples political, governance, socio economic and community issues, and aboriginal ancestry.
