Environmental Technician (Environmental)

The Environmental Technician is responsible for the monitoring of the land, water, and land based cultural resources within the Fort Nelson First Nation territory, as it relates to the protection of these resources.

Working closely with the Lands and Resources Coordinator, this employee will assist in planning and implementing environmental monitoring and restoration projects.

The Environmental Technician will participate in field surveys and research, restoration and remediation work, and will conduct water, land, wildlife and air quality monitoring activities. Other activities include, but are not limited to, field investigations, site visits, tree-planting and other laborious revegetation work, environmental sampling, data analysis and interpretation, reporting, and research.

The Environmental Technician may also conduct site inspections, and monitor effectiveness and compliance with FNFN policies, land use plans and provincial and federal environmental legislation.

A key element of success for this position is the ability to effectively implement and report on environmental monitoring and restoration projects on behalf of the FNFN Lands Department.

KSA's 

  • Two (2) year post-secondary certificate/diploma in one of the following: environmental technology, or resource management.
  • One to two (1-2) years’ field experience conducting environmental monitoring, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience working with data collection tools and equipment.
  • Experience purchasing/picking-up and delivering supplies.
  • Experience working in remote wilderness locations.
  • Physically able to conduct field work in remote area in variable weather and terrain.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with employees and the public.
  • Organized and able to handle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral); ability to listen to understand and ask questions for clarification.
  • No barriers to working with any FNFN community members, and able to build effective working relationships with government and industry representatives.
  • Proficient computer skills and able to use MS Office Suite, Excel, internet, and email.
  • Must be able to provide: satisfactory Police Information Check, and satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Must possess a valid BC Driver’s License.

Compensation

$25.17/Hourly
