Distribution Forestry Specialist

We are currently seeking a Distribution Forestry Specialist to join our team. We are looking for an energetic professional who enjoys working outdoors and values the freedom of working independently. In this position candidates can expect to learn project management skills while planning projects and preparing for land clearing activities prior to and during construction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in conference calls and meetings to support planning and communication
  • Talk to landowners, and write reports
  • Prepare vendors and check work for compliance with Best Management Practices and the utilities Initial Clearing Specifications and maintain healthy business relationships
  • Manage vendor work for schedule, cost, and progress
  • Understand permit constraints, schedule work to stay in compliance with Environmental Law, and then maintain compliance and documentation under relevant permits
  • Daily documentation of work progress with detailed work activity, labor, equipment and materials used onsite
  • Timely communication with the team and advancement of potential issues
  • Organize and participate in field reviews of newly cleared ROW with TVM Specialists
  • Manage all electronic files and control documents associated with projects
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two or four-year degree in related discipline is required
  • In lieu of degree, 5 years of direct, related experience will be considered.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem solving and multi-tasking abilities and show attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Must be proficient with computers and standard business software such as Word and Excel.
  • Must be proficient with specialized GIS or mapping programs as needed.
  • Must be able to identify tree species.
  • A working knowledge of standard forestry field tools will be needed for planning work and documentation.
  • Certification as an ISA Arborist is a plus.
  • Being Bi-Lingual (Spanish) is a plus.

Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including: walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (5 to 10 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction; operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
