Our Montréal location in Quebec, Canada is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Director, Financial Reporting & Complex Accounting. This job is permanent, full-time.

Your challenges:
Your main responsibilities will be to prepare the external financial reporting (SEC filings, 10-Q and 10-K forms) and internal financial reporting (monthly report, budget and forecasting) with the U.S. GAAP framework.  You will maintain documentation and controls supporting the compliance of the publicly traded company, review the complex accounting issues as well as all the non-routine transactions impacting the preparation of the consolidated financial statements.

Your key contributions will include the following:

  • Overview the preparation of all financial statements of the Resolute consolidated group and its various legal entities (SEC filings, 10-Q and 10-K forms and internal reporting);
  • Support the executive team in the financial statement certification process (disclosure committee, Audit Committee, Investor Relations, etc.);
  • Perform ongoing technical accounting procedures and prepare related financial statement disclosures for the following:
    • Pension and other postretirement benefit plans;
    • Share-based compensation and EPS;
    • Long-lived asset impairment review and testing;
    • Asset Retirement obligations and environmental liabilities;
    • Commitments and contingencies as well as going concern assessment;
    • Derivatives and hedging;
  • Perform technical U.S. GAAP research for complex accounting issues and prepare the supporting position paper (non-routine transactions, discontinued operations, exit and closure accounting, assets held for sale, functional currency, foreign currency translation, etc);
  • Review new accounting pronouncements for adoption and disclosure considerations and communicate impacts and relevance to the Company;
  • Coordinate audit and SOX testing and approval of accounting positions with external auditors;
  • Develop, implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures, ensure consistent application throughout the Company;
  • Provide guidance to mill controllers, sales accounting and corporate accounting staff on the proper application of U.S. GAAP;

Your team:
Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer, you will be part of a dynamic group whose members help one another reach common objectives.  You will directly supervise a team of 8 professionals.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a professional accounting designation (CPA);
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years’ experience in either a financial reporting or technical accounting research role with a large U.S. public company and/or Big 4 experience auditing U.S. clients;

Your skills:

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in both official languages;
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC rules and regulations;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change;
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to make appropriate decisions rapidly on the basis of experience and judgment even when you have incomplete information and/or you are under pressure.
