Arborist

The Arborist is responsible for maintaining all municipally owned trees which include, but are not limited to all trees located on/in boulevard, parks, facilities, and woodlots on town managed properties.  This includes identification of species, pest/pathogens, pruning/removing trees, soil conditions, identifying and pruning hazardous dangerous limbs, stump removal, plant healthcare, application of mulch, water and fertilizer and trouble shooting potential problems.  Provides direction to seasonal staff and meets with the public to inform them of problems related to trees on public and private property.  The Arborist provides support for winter control activities as required.

Qualifications:

  • diploma in arboriculture or a related field
  • three (3) years' of relevant experience in arborticulture
  • ISA Certified Arborist
  • good understanding and knowledge of plant and plant healthcare
  • ability to perform the manual tasks of the position including the ability to climb and work at heights
  • strong customer service skills and experience in responding to inquiries from residents
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) is required
  • hold a valid Ontario DZ driver's licence with ac clear driver's abstract 
  • ability to provide a current criminal reference check that is satisfactory to the Town

This is a unionized position that works a 40 hour work week in varying weather conditions.  In addition, this position is on standby from November to April to provide support for winter control activities.  The Town offers a comprehensive benefits package with paid sick and vacation leave; plus an OMERS pension.

Compensation

Pay range: $71,468 - $76,377 per year
