EACOM Timber Corporation is a major Eastern Canadian wood products company formed in 2008. Its head office is located in Montreal, Quebec, with regional offices located in Timmins, Ontario and Val d’Or, Quebec. In 2010, EACOM acquired Domtar’s Forest Products Division. As a result, its operations include the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products, and the management of forest resources.

EACOM currently owns seven sawmills (5 in Ontario, 2 in Quebec), a remanufacturing facility (Quebec) and a partnership operation in an engineered I joist plant (Ontario) for a total of 800 employees. Many of these mills have a long, rich history having been part of their communities for over 100 years.

EACOM has a production capacity of approximately 900 million board feet of lumber and holds Crown logging rights of approximately 3.5 million cubic meters annually.

EACOM is looking to fill a full time Woodlands Manager reporting to the General Manager of Ontario Forest Operations. The Woodlands Manager will plan, organize, manage and control all forest operations in Nairn Center.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Manage the forestry operations and related staff, as well as the contractors who supply the Nairn Center Sawmill, to ensure a safe and efficient work environment that supports a commitment towards reaching the divisional objectives. 
  • Develop and implement the yearly operating budgets for the timber harvesting and purchasing operations, the goal being to control operational costs and capital expenditures in a rigorous manner to maintain a competitive cost structure.  
  • Implement a yearly timber harvest and delivery program of approximately 700,000 m3 and a purchase wood program of up to 100,000 m3, that meets the inventory and quality requirements of the Nairn Center sawmill and external fibre customers.
  • Negotiate competitive harvest and delivery, purchase wood and external sales contracts with   suppliers and customers.
  • Ensure full compliance with all Government & Company policies, rules and regulations with respect to health and safety and protection of the environment.  
  • Ensure environmental management compliance and adherence to EMS procedures.
  • Liaise with local representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources, communities, other industries and stakeholders.

SKILLS:

  • Intimate knowledge of timber harvesting, processing and hauling operations
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork driven, detail focused and results oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and time
  • Strong budgetary, forecasting and cost management capabilities
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal  skills.

REQUIRMENTS:

  • The incumbent must have recognized forestry training or experience.  A University degree in Forestry with Ontario Registered Professional Forester status or eligibility is preferred.  Minimum of 10 years experience in forest operations and management;
  • Clear understanding of the legislative requirements affecting forest management in Ontario and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability building strong relationships with contractors, communities, First Nations, aboriginal and government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement change.
