Education Required: BS degree in Forestry, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or Business, or the equivalent.

Years Experience Required:  Minimum 8 years’ experience in Sourcing, Purchasing or Supply Chain supporting a manufacturing environment; experience in wood/fiber procurement is preferred.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory/lead role.   

Description:               

Manage all wood supplier-related activities.  Plan and execute wood purchases.  Manage wood inventory.  Reports to the Plant General Manager. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain a safe work record and a safe environment in accordance with company policies and OSHA regulations.  Comply with all requirements regarding PPE, safety training, and safe work habits.
  • Maintain company quality standards and requirements.
  • Oversee and manage the continuous supply of high quality raw material for plant operations.
  • Supervise the day-to-day wood receipts to ensure supplier compliance with all safety, integrity and environmental policies including adherence to Sustainable Forestry Initiatives (SFI) and other sustainability criteria.
  • Identify, develop and maintain strong supplier relationships; facilitate supplier cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, and long-term contract establishment with focus on continued quality, delivery and productivity improvements that lead to better service and cost reductions.
  • Acquire and maintain a solid and current knowledge of regional/local wood and spend trends, including new opportunities, industry trends, commodity-related cost drivers (such as diesel fuel), market pricing, etc.
  • Collaborate with plant manager and operations staff to identify and implement solutions to enhance product quality and plant cost.
  • Oversee and monitor site wood costs, quality, and controls to achieve budget objectives.
  • Work with Accounts Payable Department to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices, and resolve invoice discrepancies as necessary to ensure a smooth payment process with suppliers. 

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Forestry, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or Business, or the equivalent.
  • Background in forestry, natural resources, or related fields.
  • APICS or CPM Certification  

Previous Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in Sourcing, Purchasing or Supply Chain supporting a manufacturing environment; experience in wood/fiber procurement is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory/lead role 

Technical and Functional Knowledge Required:

  • Lean manufacturing/Six Sigma/ISO
  • Demonstrated ability to drive quantifiable improvements in supply chain management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, including contract negotiation, with proven performance in a Sourcing environment supporting 24/7/365 manufacturing operations.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional & collaborative interpersonal, facilitation, communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Detail oriented, and meticulous in the execution of tasks.
  • Well organized, efficient, and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to work and lead in a fast paced, industrial, team environment.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, noise, and moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands: This position is very active and requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing.  

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Must be able to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, as the work dictates.   

Travel: Occasional travel to wood source locations is required. 

Compensation

Wage: 80k-$100K+/year depending on experience
