Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in a business related field, MBA is highly desirable. 

Years Experience Required:  Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a sales and marketing management capacity in the wood products industry. Hardwood veneer preferred. Lumber and plywood also preferred as well.

The Vice President of Sales and Marketing reports to the CEO/President and is in charge of all sales activities, departments and personnel involved in Sales and Marketing for the Company.

Duties
The Vice President of Sales and Marketing is responsible for:

Strategic Planning:

  • Oversees long and short-range sales and marketing strategies to include competitive analysis of market trends and identification of new market opportunities to ensure market share and profitability.
  • Directs sales department to achieve objectives established in the Company’s Strategic Plan. 
  • Ensures the development and operation of an adequate sales and distribution organization and related functions (e.g. market research, advertising, promotion, training, etc.).
  • Develops pricing strategy, analyze market information and make recommendations regarding new products, marketing penetration, the competition and marketing opportunities.

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Provides leadership to the day-to-day operations of the sales department, while maintaining focus on the company’s strategic goals. 
  • Establishes performance goals for all sales department employees, and monitors performance on a continual basis.
  • Develop and manage the Company’s sales and marketing budget.
  • Develops and/or maintains and improves business relations with all customers of the Company.
  • Oversees all hiring, training and firing of personnel involved in Sales and Marketing.

Market Research:

  • Analyze sales statistics to determine business growth potential.
  • Supervises and conducts studies to investigate and determine needs and utilization of standard line or new products with consideration given to economic factors, cost of sales, volume anticipation, manufacturing requirements. 
  • Oversee product management including market and customer research for market and product requirements, interface with engineering for product development, product pricing and product lifecycle management.
  • Directs and coordinates market research studies and analysis of geographic areas to determine feasibility of expansion of the sales program.
  • Develop and track metrics and success criteria for all marketing programs and activities.

Product Marketing:

  • Oversee marketing communications including branding, public relations, advertising, white papers, trade shows, seminars and event collateral materials, analyst and market research management, and website design and content either directly or on an outsourced basis.
  • Oversee product marketing including product launch management, sales training, presentations, sales tools, competitive analysis and general sales support.
  • Develops and evaluate advertising programs, merchandising policies and product packaging.
  • Act as spokesperson for the company with press and analysts and at industry events.

Business Development

  • Seeks out and targets new customers and new sales opportunities, initiates action plan to approach and secure new business for the Company.
  • Oversees all Trade Accounts Receivables.  Monitors A/R aging on a proactive basis with his personnel, coordinates with Credit Manager and Accounts Receivable Manager/Controller.

Required Skills and Qualifications Include:

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and motivational skills
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead team meetings, motivate employees and handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Excellent computer skills for managing sales database tracking programs.
  • Must have managed sales staff for production plants.
  • Expereince in any of the following industries: Hardwood Veneer, Plywood or Lumber. Veneer experience prefered.

Compensation

Wage: $85K - $120k/ year depends on experience
