Timberland Appraiser Trainee (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Job Description: 
Duties & Responsibilities
 
• Assist the FRC’s Appraisal Services Group with appraisal projects by collecting, verifying, and summarizing land and timber sales market data and in the development of narrative appraisal reports, tables, charts, and exhibits.
• Assist in the ongoing maintenance and development of FRC’s Land Sale Database and other programs.
• Complete a rigorous appraisal education program with the goal of becoming a State Certified General Real Property Appraiser.
• Cultivate personal competency in appraisal theory and techniques.
• Develop an understanding of fundamental nuances and characteristics of timber and timberland markets.
Qualifications: 
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Forestry.
• Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs. • No previous work experience in forestry and/or the appraisal field is required.
Key Competencies:
 
• General understanding of the purpose and objectives of a timberland appraisal.
• General understanding of forestry management practices.
• Basic understanding of economic and timberland financial analysis concepts and other analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision after adequate tutoring.
• Ability to work efficiently with a variety of people and personalities.
• Good listening skills combined with the ability to accurately follow instructions.
• Ability to receive constructive criticism and implement suggestions during the appraisal training process.
