The South Area Forest Tenures Section is responsible for preparation and maintenance of agreements issued under the Forest Act at the regional level within the Cariboo, Thompson-Okanagan and Kootenay Boundary regions of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

The Timber Tenures Forester is responsible for guiding the implementation of timber administration policies, procedures and guidelines that maintain forest ecosystem integrity, and provides input into the way in which current and new approaches to forest harvesting, operating areas and Timber Supply Reviews and Apportionment with districts are developed. This position deals with Forest Tenure issues, provides assistance to Districts on various forms of timber tenure administration and management, and advertises and evaluates competitive licence opportunities and prepares recommendations regarding the outcome of the evaluation process. The Timber Tenures Forest actively participates in provincial and regional initiatives dealing with tenure reform, continuous improvement, quality assurance policy, guidelines or legislation and provides support in implementing the requirements of legislation.

Your extensive forestry experience and demonstrated knowledge of timber tenure agreements under the Forest Act and other applicable legislation and policies is essential in this key role, as you provide expertise and services to a broad client base, including FLNR ministry staff at all levels, other agencies, the public, license holders and interest groups. Analytical and results oriented, you excel at taking complex forest tenure issues and synthesizing them to make recommendations to executive. This role requires an effective communicator, able to write clear, comprehensive briefing and decision notes for the Deputy Minister and the Minister. To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following education and experience: 

Bachelors Degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or other directly related discipline as recognized for professional registration by the British Columbia Association of Forest Professionals 

Registered Professional Forester or immediately eligible registration as a professional with the British Columbia Association of Forest Professionals 

Preferably five years timber tenures experience on crown land

Must have and maintain a valid class 5 BC Drivers License
