STUDENT CRITERIA

  • Must be an undergraduate Junior, Senior or graduate student at an accredited 4-year academic institution or graduate of an accredited community college with plans to further his/her educational endeavors.
  • Have successfully completed 3 out of the 7 following courses:
    - Urban Forestry Management
    - Dendrology
    - Spatial Sciences
    - Plant Pathology
    - Entomology
    - Arboriculture
    - Biometrics
  • Have a Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 grading scale.

NOTE: Applicants will be required to complete a background investigation and a drug test prior to employment.

EXPERIENCE INTERNS WILL RECEIVE

  • Exposure to a wide variety of activities engaged in by municipal arborists, utility arborists, and non-profit arborists who are responsible for various aspects of a community tree program.
  • Instruction on preparing a photo journal presentation to be given by the student during a national urban forestry conference.
  • An opportunity to build a professional network with arborists in these employment sectors across the nation.

INTERNSHIP BENEFITS

Each student selected will be provided with the following:

  • $1,200 Housing Stipend.
  • Registration and $300 travel scholarship to attend the Fall 2016 Annual SMA Conference (date and location TBA).
  • An hourly wage of $12/hr for 10 weeks (40 hours/wk) during the summer of 2016.
    - For schools on a semester system: Approximate start date will be May 23, 2016~ approximate end date will be July 29, 2016.
    OR
    - For schools on a quarter system: Approximate start date will be June 20, 2016 ~ approximate end date will be August 26, 2016.

  • Submit an OFFICIAL University transcript SEALED from your current University.
  • Submit one Letter of Recommendation from an individual employed by your current academic institution.
  • Submit one Letter of Recommendation from an individual who has seen your level of service in your local community –OR- your current employer.
  • Submit a copy of your valid driver's license.
