About the Opportunity

Due to growth, Thompson Resource Management has an opening for a Senior Forest Technician / Project Coordinator in Clearwater, BC.

In this key role, you will chiefly be responsible for all aspects of natural resource project management and development. You will coordinate contracts and provide direction and field expertise while mentoring, guiding, and training other team members.

More specifically, you will:

  • Ensure the effective coordination and timely, accurate completion of all field and office works;
  • Coordinate crews in the successful development of permits in the range of 100,000 cubic meters annually, from a broad landscape level / total chance plan through to submission;
  • Supervise multiple field crews in complex and variable wet belt terrain that encompasses a variety of harvest systems (from ground-based to cable and multi-span on complicated and steep terrain);
  • Rework existing projects into viable refreshed products compliant with current standards and legislation; and
  • Share your knowledge and skills to develop and mentor other employees who are working towards their professional designation.

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s Degree or a Diploma in Forestry or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of progressive work experience supervising multiple field crews.

Preference will be given to candidates with current registration as an RFT or RPF and who are in good standing with the ABCFP. It will be an asset if you have experience in Heli-layout. You’ll be a step ahead of the rest if you have experience in managing projects exceeding 100,000m3 annually.

The successful candidate will be skilled in project management and team leadership, and will join us with knowledge or experience in the following areas:

  • Ground and cable based harvesting systems and equipment;
  • Steep terrain development and implications;
  • Road design and cable analysis using industry approved software;
  • Familiarity with all Provincial Legislative and Regulatory obligations;

You will also be accustomed to working with GPS and computer technology. A Class 5 Driver’s License and Level 1 First Aid are required. Drawing upon your superior business acumen, you will have proven experience working and liaising directly with clients.

Compensation
