Seasonal Field Operations, Planning, and Silviculture Positions (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Canfor’s Forest Management Group has positions ranging from 4 to 11 month terms that are renewable with varying start and end dates and the potential for advancement within the company, including full-time job opportunities. MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Field Operations Staff will be responsible for layout and/or timber cruising activities. Responsibilities may include photo interpretation and stratification, layout of cutblocks and roads, traversing, pest identification and management, riparian/stream classification, layout reports, cutting permit applications, development of cruise plans, operational cruising and mapping of field information, ecotyping, field resource assessments and assisting Forestry Supervisors as required.

  • Silviculture Assistants will be responsible for the implementation and supervision of planting, site preparation, and stand-tending projects utilizing performance management systems and updating the Genus database with planned and completed activities. Completing post harvest prescriptions, plantation assessments and assisting with Site Plan amendments may also be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • excellent communication skills
  • the ability to safely perform physically demanding fieldwork in a team environment
  • possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license

Preference may be given to those with extensive experience with:

  • enrolled or graduated from a forestry program or related field
