DESCRIPTION

FPInnovations is seeking a Scientist/Engineer, Pulp Quality and Process Applications, for the Market Pulp Research Group in Vancouver, BC.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in wood and fibre quality and how this impacts pulp processes and pulp product quality. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Pulp and Paper Engineering or equivalent, in addition to fibre quality knowledge. Reporting to the Research Leader, Fibre Cost and Quality, he/she will be responsible for fibre quality and cost reduction projects with member companies, including research in the areas of fibre resource evaluation, optimization of incoming chip supply (both cost and quality), reduction of fibre losses, and impact of different wood species on pulping processes and products. He/she may also contribute to teams working on pulping process improvements and pulp product performance.

Responsibilities will include working with pulp mills, conducting mill trials, implementing solutions and validating benefits. He/she will be expected to identify and respond to the needs of clients, to lead the direction of work in this field, and to communicate results effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in engineering or science (preferably pulp and paper focus), with at least 5 years of related experience, preferably in the pulp and paper industry, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

 Strong skills in oral and written communications including high quality technical presentations and reports

 Ability to manage projects including budgets, resources and timely delivery 

 Ability to work effectively in a team environment and supervise and train others
