Sawmill Superintendent (Management & Executives)

The Sawmill Superintendent is a key member of the Plant Management Team and is responsible for providing overall management of the Sawmill and Log Yard, and as such liaises with the Planer, Maintenance, Shipping and general Administration Departments to ensure excellent safety performance combined with maximum productivity, quality and customer satisfaction with the lowest possible cost.

Major Duties:

·         Ensure the highest level of workplace safety performance

·         Provide direction and support for operating and supervisory personnel and foster a highly effective working relationship with all employees

·         Assist in developing and achieving targets in safety, quality, cost, delivery and employee engagement

·         Ensure the Operating System is being followed with the emphasis on abnormality response

·         Liaise closely with all other departments; Log yard, Planer, Maintenance, and Shipping 

·         Provide development for supervisory personnel

·         Develop and meet targets in safety, quality, cost, and production

·         Prioritize maintenance needs while providing direction and support

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

·         Proven ability to lead in safety and engage people in process management

·         Experience as a supervisor or superintendent in wood products manufacturing

·         Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and team building skills

·         Solid knowledge of Performance Management and Continuous Improvement processes

·         Solid understanding and knowledge of optimization equipment and processes

·         Sound knowledge of marketing and product mix

·         Proficiency in contemporary business management skills (Microsoft Office applications, understanding of financial principles)

·         Strong organizational skills with the desire to accept the challenge of working in continually changing internal and external business conditions

·         Be an effective leader and communicator with strong verbal, written and oral presentation skills

·         Post secondary education in wood products or forestry would be an asset

·         Maintenance experience would be an asset
