Years Experience Required:  The idea candidate must have a minimum of 10 years sawmill management experience.

Description: 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager (GM) will be responsible for assembling a team and production capabilities to build a world-class sawmill operation. 

Must be intimately involved in all activities around the start-up and ongoing operation of the business.  Must prep the site for colocation and start-up of biomass cogeneration capability.   

Responsibilities

  • Build a team and infrastructure to start and run a world-class sawmill operation.
  • Work with site ownership to help lead all project management activities for startup.
  • Lead Purchasing, Manufacturing, Sales, and other functional teams.
  • Create Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboard.
  • Collaborate with functional staff on collecting and synthesizing data needed to maintain the KPI dashboard.
  • Drive start-up and business growth to achieve net profitability in year one, and 10% return on invested capital (ROIC) by the end of year three. 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Intimate knowledge of sawmill technology, equipment, operations, and industry.
  • Intimate knowledge of source timber types, and marketing avenues for wood species native to Northern California.
  • Solid leadership skills in managing continuous flow production environment.
  • Solid ability to read, make decisions from, and lead organization through financial statements.
  • Ability to lead marketing and sales function.
  • Ability to lead design and layout of sawmill operation and equipment. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Business.
  • Previous P&L management experience in manufacturing – sawmill site leadership preferred.
  • Previous senior leadership in sawmill, logging, or lumber operation.
  • Previous sawmill and cogeneration capital project, greenfield start-up and/or project management experience.
  • Ability to courageously and effectively lead to achieve business objectives. 

Compensation

$80-$150k/year depending on experience
