Terrace, BC is an economically and socially vibrant community of 15,000 residents which offers a full suite of facilities, services and recreational opportunities. Our client is an independent, community minded sawmill based in Terrace. The mill has approximately 90 personnel and an annual production capacity of 90 million board feet based on one shift. The sawmill manages three Provincial forest tenures and buys logs on the open market to supplement sawlog supply. Investments in mill infrastructure are underway and long-term plans for the mill include a significant modernization to improve recovery, efficiency and production.
Position Specifications
Education and Qualifications
· Minimum of Saw Filer Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) or Saw Filer with Benchperson Endorsement;
· 3-5 years as a Head Saw Filer or Assistant.
Technical Details
· Familiarity with 8 foot double cut bench, 72 to 84 inch inserted tooth cut off saw, three saw edger, Bull edger with inserted tooth, and switch tooth saw.
· Knowledgeable with the disposable Key Knife head system.
· Ability to overhaul grinders and swing mechanisms.
· Maintain saw filing equipment, grinding and babbeting.
Skills & Abilities
· Ability to work with all types of saws, including circular saws, band saws, gang saws;
· Able to operate, repair and adjust saw sharpening equipment;
· Knowledge with benching all circular and gang saws, including tensioning, welding cracks, welding on teeth, including any other work that is usually performed by a Saw Filer in the Lumber Manufacturing Industry;
· Good communication and interpersonal skills is required;
· Excellent work ethic and ability to work with others.
Salary: $30-35/hour based on United Steelworkers contract rates plus very good benefits package.
Shifts: two shifts per day being 7:00am-3:30pm and 4:00pm-midnight. With the possibility of OT.
Other Benefits: Relocation allowance and temporary living allowance will be considered.
Schedule: Full-time rotational shifting
