Salary $58,921.64 - $76,830.90 annually (plus a 4.4% Temporary Market Adjustment)

Position is based in Prince George however, other Northern BC locations may be negotiable. This posting will remain open until position is filled and applications will be reviewed at 30 day intervals.

The primary purpose of the Engineering Branch is to provide a safe, forest road network which balances industrial, commercial and public use in a cost effective manner reflecting the level of use and available funding while minimizing impacts to the environment.

As Roads Engineer, you provide project management, review, approval and field oriented and professional engineering services and advice to Ministry staff for implementation of the region’s engineering program. You will also oversee road and bridge activities and other engineering issues related to regional harvesting to ensure compliance with regulations and standards. You are an effective communicator and collaborator, able to establish and maintain productive working relationships with industry, consulting and environmental, and provincial and federal professionals to deal with technical issues, engineering standards, regulations, guidebooks and standard operating procedures which may impact forest road or harvesting issues.

In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following education and experience:

• Bachelor of Applied Science degree in geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, or civil engineering with a geotechnical background and five years of current professional (gained over last 7 years) related engineering experience.
• Preferably five years related geotechnical experience in the resource sector.
• Registration or eligible for immediate registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia.

Applicants selected to move forward in the hiring process may be assessed on the following:

• Working knowledge of civil engineering as they relate to access management planning and road and bridge survey, design, construction, maintenance and deactivation.
• Working knowledge of watershed management issues, slope management issues and practices.
• Ability to plan, design, constructs, rehabilitate and deactivate forest roads.
• Ability to review, advice, assists and approves a wide variety of engineering projects.
