Description

In this developmental position, the Resource Forester will work collaboratively with the Resource Unit team to achieve financial goals and desired outcomes.  To gain experience, will work across all Resource Unit functions to assist in Timber Marketing, Resource Land Management, and Resource Development areas as needed.  Coordinates and supervises silvicultural operations including site preparation, planting, herbaceous weed control, fertilization, thinning (where applicable) and timber stand improvements. 

Maximizes net present value by utilization of decision support tools to conduct financial evaluations on silvicultural prescriptions.  Manages all Resource Unit forest inventory and GIS updates.  Maintains good relationships with adjacent forest landowners, forest industry contacts and public agencies.  Supports TerraPointe Services, Inc. (TSI) in value enhancing land management activities.   Provides customer support to Resource Unit’s non-timber income, contractors and timber sales’ customers. 

Responsible for safety, risk management and environmental compliance programs within area of responsibility.  Responsible for effectively merchandizing trees to their highest value under a delivered wood system and providing compliance for stumpage sales where required.  Additionally, supports Timber Marketing Manager in tactical harvest scheduling, timber sale design, preparation and execution and the development of marketing plan that maximizes timber revenues for the Resource Unit.  Responsible for logistics among and between delivered log operations.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Forestry or related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of regeneration silviculture, timber stand improvement, financial analysis, GIS applications and forest inventory and analysis.  Harvesting compliance, log merchandizing, forest protection, road maintenance/improvement activities, budgeting and forecasting process, safety procedures and environmental compliance. 
  • Due to the developmental nature of this position the ability and willingness to relocate within the Southeast and/or Northwest U.S. is required.
