Relief Logger (Shelton, WA)

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Relief Logger provides support and backup for all functions of company logging operations. .  The Relief Logger’s primary duties are to support shovel logging operations but may also be assigned to the assist the cable logging crew. Good communication skills and work ethic are a must.  This is a full-time multiple-shift position and is based out of our Camp 1 facility located about 10 miles west of Shelton, WA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Provide relief for all yard and load jobs.
  • Operate log loader, D-8 cat, and chainsaw.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current log specifications for specie and grade.
  • Measure and buck logs to desired lengths.
  • Have working knowledge of yarder operation; spotter/choker setter, splicing and/or stringing lines.
  • Understand and use “whistle” sequences for extracting logs.
  • Follow HCP and FPA rules and regulations.
  • Understand the working functions of a machine and check all fluid levels and perform daily maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 - 3 years’ experience with logging operations preferred.
  • Experience operating a log loader, D-8 Cat, and chainsaw.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Able to obtain Commercial Driver’s License if necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is located in Shelton, WA.
  • Works primarily (90%+) of the time in the field under varying topography and climatic extremes.
  • Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep, rugged, and/or densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to see distance and detail with accuracy.
  • Must have ability to work independently and without immediate supervision in remote areas.
  • Works in conditions that may expose employee to wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites.
  • Mandatory travel to remote company locations.
  • Attend training and company functions.
  • Requires the use of standard safety equipment in accordance with state law and Green Diamond’s policies.
  • This position may be exposed to pesticides.
