Production Supervisor (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Western Cleanwood Preservers, a wood preserving plant, is part of the CanWel Treating Division, which is under the CanWel Building Materials Group Ltd.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor manages the day-to-day production activities throughout the plant. Supervises the production staff, and coordinates all aspects of production, staffing, scheduling and ensuring that all company objectives and environmental standards are met.

Expected Contributions:

·       Proactively promote a safe work environment and ensure that all employees are knowledgeable and diligent in carrying out their duties.

·       Review a detailed inventory position report for production priorities and plan production schedules daily.

·       Ensures production volumes are met, downtime is limited and follows up with any problems that may occur.

·       Responsible for up to 25 unionized production staff on one or two 8.5 hour day and night shifts.

·       Creates staff shift schedules, and adjust accordingly to support production and special project requirements to ensure that production runs smoothly.

·       Troubleshoot and diagnosis of machinery breakdowns with millwright and related personnel, solving pump, valve, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical malfunctions.

·       Provides the proper orientation and training as required to ensure an efficient and effective work force.

·       Ensures that the provisions of the collective agreement are understood by all parties and adhered to.

·       Purchases supplies for mill maintenance, repairs and production requirements.

·       Control the inventory to retain maximum value and minimal waste.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Attention to detail. 
  • Lumber mill or lumber yard experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a unionized production facility.
  • Lumber manufacturing or wood preserving experience is desirable.
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Pump, valve, hydraulic, pneumatics, and electrical experience
  • Familiar with operating milling machinery
  • Production forecasting and scheduling experience
  • Demonstrated competencies in leadership and communication.
  • Experience with disciplinary actions
  •   Ability to think creatively and solve problems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Competent with MS office products
  • Increase production levels
  • Minimize down-time

EDUCATION

  • High school graduation
  • Diploma or certificate in business administration or operations is an asset

HOURS OF WORK

  • Typically Monday through Friday starting at 6:30 am.

Work Location -   9815 Robson Road, Surrey, BC.  Limited public transportation is available.
