EACOM Timber Corporation is a major Eastern Canadian wood products company formed in 2008. As a result, its operations include the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products, and the management of forest resources.

EACOM currently owns seven sawmills (5 in Ontario, 2 in Quebec), a remanufacturing facility (Quebec) and a partnership operation in an engineered I joist plant (Ontario) for a total of 800 employees. Many of these mills have a long, rich history having been part of their communities for over 100 years.

EACOM has a production capacity of approximately 900 million board feet of lumber and holds Crown logging rights of approximately 3.5 million cubic meters annually.

Thus, we are looking for a Process and Control Specialist at our Ear Falls Sawmills, Ontario. Reporting to the Project Management and Control Manager, you will be responsible for the implementation of control systems, programming on start-up projects and daily operational issues. This position will be responsible for system specification, design, architecture and development of automated systems with other team members of the Project personnel, Electrical technicians, Electricians and operational crew to maximize Automation efficiency within every sawmill.

Job Description:

  • Identify problems, develop and implement solutions
  • Experience configuring control systems in a manufacturing environment with start-up projects experience within Sawmills. (Lumber industry)
  • Develop and support Automation initiatives on many platforms
  • Electrical Design, Programming, Instrumentation and Industrial IT initiative to support start-up for all other lumber units.
  • Hands-on PLC programming installation/service engineering/troubleshoot hardware and peripheral devices.
  • Train trades and technician on Automation System.
  • Configuration of various automation systems (process control systems, safety instrumented systems and fire and gas systems) including code development, ability to specify hardware needed as per projects or situation.
  • Understanding of the use of Automation in a Sawmill plant process and basic unit operations to assist with the design of process control strategies.
  • Responsible for implementing code, system simulation, operator training and commissioning support to all units.
  • Develop standards, procedures, training manuals, and other documentation for projects or internal use.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Collegial level in Electrical discipline or Control Engineering with at least 5 years of experience related to Automation, start-up projects.
  • Experience with Modicon & Allan Bradley.
  • Automation System training/certification to coach other.
  • Experience in PLC development, support and testing services.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting machine control systems, machine start- up and de-bugging.
  • Working knowledge of VFD and Servo Motor control.
  • Understanding basic pneumatic and hydraulic circuits.
