The mission of BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is to develop and market Crown timber to establish the costs of development and the market price to capture the value of the asset for the public. A rewarding opportunity exists for a professional forester in Fort St. James. This opportunity is particularly suited for a professional forester who enjoys working in the outdoors to complete physically demanding field work. As a Practices Forester, you will perform a wide variety of professional and technical services to support the development and operational stages of pre and post Timber Sale License awards and active harvest operations within your field team. You will work within a team of BCTS forest professionals and contractors.

Your main responsibilities will include operational planning and prescriptions, forest road and cut block layout and development in accordance with the requirements of the Business Area’s Forest Stewardship Plan and Sustainable Forest Management Plan considering ecosystem factors and BCTS business and financial objectives. Assignment of duties will be subject to the needs of the Business Area and may include any/all those listed in the job profile. You will also ensure all activities associated with your responsibilities are consistent with Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) and Safe Certification standards and are technically effective and appropriate. You are prepared to work extended hours in the field, work and travel in adverse weather conditions, spend time flying in fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft and travel with limited notice.  The job can also require that you work alone in semi-isolated areas.
