Planning Forester (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Forsite is looking for a Planning Forester with strong communication and facilitation skills to support our clients in B.C. and across western Canada.  The successful applicant will become a technical leader working with senior planning and analysis staff and with clients to deliver tactical and strategic planning projects.  The position requires a minimum of 5 years of forestry experience in western Canada, a post-secondary education with a natural resource management focus and professional forester accreditation.

SCOPE:

Working within Forsite’s Resource Management and Technology business area you will work closely with senior planners and forest analysts to provide forestry business knowledge and technical analysis that offers cost effective, innovative, and meaningful solutions. You should have demonstrated problem solving ability, strong written and oral communications skills and an ability to develop realistic plans within complex and challenging stewardship situations.

You should also have experience and a background in operational forestry with a solid understanding of timber operations, timber values and appraisal and harvesting operations.

Potential project types include planning projects involving forest management, total chance/total resource, watershed management, wildlife habitat and visuals.  

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Time management and project budgets.  Assist with marketing and sales efforts.  Supervision of technical specialists / multiple projects / subcontractors.

MARKETING/SALES:

Supporting role in the development of bids and proposals. Provide feed-back for future opportunities and potential for new products and services.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

Act as project leader on planning projects as directed by the manager.   Apply specialized knowledge in forest management and project management in the successful completion of projects under your direction.  Ensure project accountability is assigned and monitored.  Create environment within the project team that fosters open communication and continuous improvement.

CLIENT LIAISON:

Support the translation of client concerns/challenges into projects designed to provide a solution. Ensure client expectations are clear and met within projects. Manage client expectations, scope issues, and billings.

FOREST MANAGEMENT:

Have a background in operational forestry.  Be knowledgeable and experienced in tenures and permitting, timber supply, stumpage, land use planning, forest management planning, forest inventory and GIS.

TECHNOLOGY:

Proven ability in GIS, data analysis and MS Office suite of tools.

COMMUNICATION/FACILITATION:

Provide exceptionally clear written and verbal communications to ensure project inputs are correct and project results lead to informed decision making.  Facilitate planning processes and presentations in order to effectively deliver projects.
