Apollo Forest Products, a division of Sinclar Group Forest Products since 1969, is a major employer in the community, deriving significant benefit from a capable and committed workforce.  With its strong and secure fibre basket, the Apollo mill produces 150 million board feet of premium quality stud lumber annually.  Apollo has a partnership agreement with the Nak’azdli First Nation in the Tl’oh operation with an annual production capacity of 24 million board feet of high-quality finger-joint stud lumber.  Fort St. James is located approximately 160 km north-west of Prince George.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Superintendent provides strong and effective leadership and direction to front line supervisory staff and the maintenance team while working closely with all other departments.  This role will appeal to individuals who are able to bring out the best in people and who have a keen appetite for career development and for personal growth and achievement.

The Operations Superintendent ensures the safe and efficient coordination of all production and maintenance activities on the site, including the sawmill, planer, log yard, kilns, lumber yard and shipping; striving to achieve safety, environmental, operational, quality and financial objectives that are consistent with the strategic direction set by the company. This role champions and leads a ‘safety first’ work culture and fosters a respectful workplace environment that engages people in the pursuit of organizational goals and accountability.

Among other responsibilities, the Operations Superintendent:

  • Facilitates and promotes a safe and positive working environment, ensuring the highest level of workplace safety
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures, and applicable government regulations
  • Optimizes production and maintenance performance to improve operational efficiency
  • Provides leadership, training and support for operating and maintenance personnel and fosters a highly effective working relationship with all employees
  • Facilitates development for supervisory personnel
  • Participates in budgeting, forecasting and cost control as it relates to the operation and maintenance of the plant
  • Participates in capital planning and the implementation of those plans
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of an effective predictive and preventative maintenance programs
