Brand new OSB mill in Northern Alberta seeks journeyman millwright

Our client is a top tier, privately owned and integrated forestry company with operations across Western Canada. They are looking for skilled labor for their modern, high production oriented strand board (OSB) mill located in Slave Lake, AB. The state-of-the-art facility has the longest continuous press in North America, capable of producing residential sheathing, value-added & specialty industrial panels, as well as LVL in the future.  

Located 250 km northwest of Edmonton at the southeastern tip of Lesser Slave Lake, the community has a diverse population of 7000 and offers excellent economic and social opportunity with a small-town pace & natural surroundings that create a rich quality of life. The area has abundant indoor/outdoor amenities including: lake sports, hiking, cycling, off-road vehicle touring, camping, golfing, tennis, soccer, baseball/slowpitch, skateboarding & a new indoor aquatic center. Winter months offer cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, curling and skating facilities. The town has a diverse economic base that includes forestry, oil & gas, tourism, secondary manufacturing, and value-added sectors and is considered a regional service center with a variety of retail, education, health, financial, government & transportation services.

Primary responsibilities include:

·         Maintain pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers & chains, bearings and hydraulics involved in the manufacturing process of OSB; 

·         Read blueprints & schematic drawings to assemble equipment and follow work procedures & processes;

·         Follow preventative maintenance/safety procedures and schedules for mill equipment;

·         Troubleshoot, analyze & perform maintenance work/repair on machinery, hydraulic equipment & cylinders.

Position Specifications

Education and Experience

·         Completion of a recognized Millwright program and AB Journeyman/Red Seal Certification required;

·         Other relevant trades (eg. welding, machinist, metal fabrication) in addition to the millwright qualification are highly beneficial.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

·         Excellent communication (English), work prioritization and time management skills are mandatory;

·         Team player able to work with a team of other skilled trades or independently;

·         Knowledge of PLC optimization technology is beneficial;

·          Knowledge and application of  health and safety requirements is a must;

 ·         Computer literacy also required.

Schedule & status: Permanent-full-time rotational shifting 

Compensation

Salary: $39/hour based on union contract rates plus very good benefits package.

Housing Allowance: Taxable monthly housing/travel allowance of $400.00 per month.
