1. B.S. degree in forestry required.
2. Two year’s experience preferred, but not required.
3. Must be a registered forester in the State of Alabama or upon having satisfied the State’s two year experience requirement, then pass the State test within the following six month period.
4. Must demonstrate ability to use personal computers/laptop to manage data, work up inventories, prepare written documents of all types. Specific software and operating systems will include: Windows 7 operating system, all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook & Power Point), Solo Field, ArcGis and TwoDog. Additionally, will use electronic data recording devices in the field such as: Recon & Nomad.
5. Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Must be physically capable of working in difficult outdoor environments such as: extreme heat and cold, steep mountainous terrain, wet bottomlands and thick vegetation.
7. Must demonstrate the ability to quickly become proficient at performing the general field work responsibilities such as cruising, timber sale preparations, and GPS work. Proficiency will be measured in production terms (plots/day, miles marked/GPS per day, etc.) Required production goals will be established and monitored.
Must be able to work long hours when necessary and travel/stay overnight for distant work projects on occasion.
