The Log Procurement Manager is responsible for securing an adequate and affordable log supply for the mill.

The Log Procurement Manager will work under the guidance of the Seattle Snohomish Mill owner to develop overall strategies that consider economic trends and future risks and opportunities to ensure the continuous and profitable operation of the business.

The Log Procurement Manager is in charge of purchasing and delivering the highest quality and value logs to Seattle Snohomish Mill using a continuous improvement process.  Log delivery volume and cost projections will be updated regularly to inform log procurement efforts and assure an adequate supply to the mill.

Job Requirements:

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure an adequate log supply for the mill using the company buying standard
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial log supplier relationships
  • Timber sale cruising, appraisals
  • Solid understanding of log quality, sawmill capabilities and log recovery
  • Coordinate with owner to create a log purchasing effort that meets customer needs, and maximizes overall product value and profitability
  • Public timber sale contract administration
  • Lead a quality control program that begins in the woods, ensuring that proper logging methods deliver optimum lengths, diameters and quality
  • Post-harvest analysis of timber sale cutouts and the assessment of all components of the appraisal process
  • Managing contractors – logging, reforestation, brush control, road building
  • Inventory cruising and database updates
  • Seek opportunities for timberland purchases
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in the forest industry in timber management, log buying or selling, or log scaling, is required. A college degree or equivalent work experience is required and the candidate should possess excellent management, computer, analytic, and communication skills.

Minimum Experience: 2-3 years
