Western Cleanwood Preservers, a wood preserving plant, is part of the CanWel Treating Division, which is under the CanWel Building Materials Group Ltd.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Lab Tester conducts chemical tests on treated plywood, on a weekly basis, to ensure CHPVA (Canadian Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association) standards are met.

Expected Contributions:

In a lab setting:

  • Must be able to cut 1 inch plywood plugs using a small band saw.
  • Spray plywood plugs with a liquid chemical.
  • Measure, record and document preservative penetration in plywood.
  • Dry plywood plugs in a microwave oven and then grind with a grinder.
  • Analyze grindings using an analysis machine to determine if CHPVA standards are met.
  • Record and document preservative retention level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Attention to detail
  • Lumber mill or lumber yard experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Able to operate machinery safely (band saw)
  • Able to work independently
  • Personal protection equipment is supplied.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

  • Permanent Part-Time

EDUCATION

  • High school graduation
  • Background in Forestry, Chemical Sciences, Wood Processing is an asset.

COMPENSATION

  • $12.50 per hour

HOURS OF WORK

  • Up to 4 hours per week

9815 Robson Road, Surrey, BC  V3V 2R9.  Limited public transportation is available.
