Intermediate and Senior Forest Technicians (Technologists & Technicians)

Based out of Cranbrook, BC, Maple Leaf Forestry Ltd. provides technical and professional forestry, environmental, and GIS / Mapping services to a wide range of clients throughout the Kootenay Region. We have job openings for Intermediate and Senior Forest Techs with an anticipated start date of early May 2014 or as negotiated with the successful candidate. These are full-time, field oriented positions with the majority of the work occurring throughout the Rocky Mountain Forest District. Both temporary and permanent positions are being offered.

Intermediate Forest Techs

Job Description:

Candidates for this position will aid in our timber development projects. Tasks include assisting in road and cut-block layout, field data collection, stream assessments, stand level assessments, timber cruising, and GPS traversing.

Preferred qualifications:

Forestry Diploma or equivalent with 1-2 years forestry related experience; knowledge of forest harvesting operations; familiar with BEC, soils, and plant ID; experience with GPS.

Senior Forest Techs

Job Description:

Candidates for this position will be the crew leader for our forest development projects. Tasks include timber evaluations, road and cut-block layout, timber cruising, Site Plan data collection, stream assessments, stand level assessments, and GPS traversing.

Preferred qualifications:

RFT or RPF status with 3 years timber development experience; knowledge of interior ground-based and cable harvesting systems and operational planning; familiar with forest regulations; trained in BEC, soils, and plant ID; experience with GPS.

Other requirements for positions:

Strong communication, organizational, technical writing, and computer skills; ability to troubleshoot and problem solve; ability to work safely, independently and in a team environment; physically fit and able to work in mountainous terrain in all types of weather conditions; valid BC drivers licence. *Candidates that do not meet the preferred qualifications above may still be considered.
