Harvesting Supervisor (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that all phases of Woodlands operations, operate in a consistent, safe, efficient, and cost effective manner by keeping abreast of Government Policies, harvesting and mobile equipment innovations, and making recommendations on new strategies and procedures where indicated.
    • Land Use administration and Road use administration.
    • Follow procedures and ensure completion of responsibilities required through the Environmental Management System, CSA and/or other forestry certification initiatives to which the Division has committed.
    • Ensure safe work practices with respect to personal safety and care of equipment to meet company and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
    • Ensure that contractors are fully aware of company safety policy and requirements, including the periodic auditing of compliance.
    • Ensure safe work procedures and take corrective action when required.
    • Evaluate unsafe work procedures or equipment, including those identified by employees, judging the authenticity of each case and take prompt and corrective action as required or referring to immediate supervisor.
    • Ensure work conforms to company and government standards. Write reports as requested to summarize work under his/her supervision. Evaluate logging and road building conditions.
    • Supervise contractors to ensure the orderly production of high quality logs/wood chips and construction of a safe and high standard of roads.
    • Supervise contractor adherence to company and government policies and procedures.
    • Maintain accurate records and maps of work performed.
    • Ensure that organizations with various rights and road use agreements adhere to their contractual obligations.
    • Maintain open communications with local trappers where company operations overlap trapping areas.
    • Be knowledgeable of local resources, especially contractors that may be of use to the company.
    • Supervise contractors fairly and consistently; discipline firmly and consistently when required.
    • Cooperate with others in similar positions in the division to ensure consistency of effort, supervision and discipline.
    • Maintain good relations and two-way communications with other Woodlands staff (including other divisions).
    • Ensure that all mobile equipment is kept in good condition and serviced at the proper intervals.
    • Ensure that all other equipment is in good condition and returned to storage after use.
    • Ensure that supplies are used efficiently with the least possible waste.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 3 years of relevant forestry experience
