West Fraser’s Woodlands division in Williams Lake, BC has an immediate opening for a:

GIS TECHNICIAN

As part of the Woods staff, you will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of an integrated Information System utilizing ArcGIS, ArcSDE and Oracle database. This position is based out of Williams Lake, BC and will remotely support our surrounding divisions. The position will also include involvement in strategic and operational planning projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & quality control of spatial data in The Forest Manager (TFM) for the Woods department
  • Prepare & submit digital data to government, to provided standards
  • Produce a variety of map products for Woods staff
  • Support Woods staff with TFM and GIS tasks
  • Generate and provide TFM reports for all forestry applications
  • Work with other licensees and consultants to ensure data exchange standards are maintained

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited post-secondary GIS program
  • Experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS, Geodatabase, ArcSDE, Crystal Reports, FME
  • Knowledge of RDMBS, SQL, in particular, Oracle database
  • Familiarity with data management systems such as The Forest Manager would be an asset
  • Experience with programming in Python, VB .NET and ArcObjects
  • A clear communicator with good interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytic and management skills

Considered an Asset:

  • Forestry education and/or forest industry background
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in the forest industry.
